What value means in a pick (and why it doesn't guarantee a win)
A pick with value has a good price. That doesn't mean it will win.

Take odds of −115, which imply 53.5%. If the analysis estimates that selection wins 56% of the time, the difference is 2.5 points. That is value: the price is below what the estimated probability is worth.
Even so, that selection would lose 44 times out of 100. That's why a pick with value can lose, and a losing streak doesn't always mean bad analysis. Value only shows over many decisions, with disciplined stakes.
How to tell whether the process is working without relying on a single result: CLV (closing line value). It compares the odds you took with the closing odds, right before the game starts.
| You took | Close | Implied probability at close | Reading |
|---|---|---|---|
| −115 | −130 | 56.5% | You got a better price than the close |
| −115 | −105 | 51.2% | The market moved against you |
At EdgePicks we measure the CLV of official picks against Pinnacle's close, one of the lowest-margin sportsbooks in the market. It's how we review the process with data, not only with results.
