Base bankroll and stake: why your stake shouldn't grow with every win
The costliest mistake on a hot streak is raising your stake without noticing.
October 31, 2026
Your base bankroll is the amount you set as the reference for every stake. Your current balance reflects what happened in the cycle: wins, losses and transfers. They are two different numbers on purpose.
Example with a Balanced profile and a $1,000 base bankroll:
| Situation | Current balance | 7% stake |
|---|---|---|
| Start of the month | $1,000 | $70 |
| After a hot streak | $1,345 | $70 |
| After a cold streak | $860 | $70 |
The stake stays at $70 because it is sized on the base bankroll, not the balance. If you want it to grow, you update your base bankroll on purpose, not by inertia. That avoids two common traps: betting more because you are "up" and chasing losses.
Your profile sets the maximum exposure per decision:
- Conservative: straights up to 7%, parlays up to 2%.
- Balanced: straights up to 10%, parlays up to 3%.
- Aggressive: straights up to 15%, parlays up to 5%.
Risk control also checks your exposure for the day, for the same event and your drawdown. It can only lower a stake, never raise it.
